Hundreds joined the Justice for Simba campaign last Saturday for the ‘Carnival of Resistance’.
These Walls Must Fall was there, along with campaigners and representatives from many groups such as Migrants Organise, South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action Group, Medact Sheffield, Docs Not Cops Sheffield, Keep Our NHS Public – Leeds, Sheffield TUC, Labour for a Green New Deal, Mount Pleasant Park FC, City of Sanctuary Sheffield, ASSIST Sheffield, Wakefield District City of Sanctuary, Sheffield Against Asylum Evictions – SAAE, Anti Raids Sheffield, Extinction Rebellion Sheffield, One Rainbow Bridge Network…the list goes on!
We marched with a samba band in the sunshine through Sheffield City Centre to let the whole city know that we demand Justice for Simba, and we will not stop until he gets it! These Walls Must Fall campaigner Simba is still facing £100,000 NHS charges for emergency treatment he received when he had a stroke.
Local MP Olivia Blake kicked off the day with a speech before an energetic, angry and joyful carnival through the city, ending with speeches outside the Royal Hallamshire Hospital where the petition of 75,000 signatures (Sign here if you haven’t already) was handed in. We definitely made the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals management sit up and listen, and let hundreds of passers by know that NHS charges exist and affect people right here in Sheffield.
Next, the campaign will be using all this energy to win the demand to drop the charges for good!
