The Leeds Asylum Seeker Support Network (LASSN) is hosting two training sessions this May for people concerned about immigration detention.
These sessions are aimed at people at risk of detention themselves, as well as people who support them. Places are limited. If we cannot fit you into these sessions, we will keep you informed of future events. So please book now if you want to attend.
Workshop 1: Preparing in Case of Detention
7th May 14:00 – 16:00
at LASSN – Oak House, Park Lane LS3 1EL
Anyone who does not yet have the right to remain in the UK is at risk of detention. Living in this situation causes stress and anxiety, but there are lots of things you can do. This workshop is for anyone who is worried about detention – for yourself or someone else – with information and advice on various things that you do.
*This session has ended. If you are interested in attending one of these workshops in the near future, please get in touch. Meanwhile, see below for campaigning workshop.
Workshop 2: Campaigning for Change
14 May, 14:00 – 16:00
at LASSN – Oak House, Park Lane LS3 1EL
People are being taken from our communities and locked up in prison-like detention centres, without time limit, with no idea of when they might be released. Why? They just don’t (yet) have the correct immigration papers.
These Walls Must Fall is an initiative started by Right to Remain, building a network of locally-based community campaigns, part of the growing movement to end immigration detention. People are pushing the campaign through their community groups, voluntary organisations, charities, trade unions, activist groups, faith communities, student societies, sports clubs… the list keeps growing!
This workshop will introduce the campaign, and discuss how we can build in Leeds and the surrounding areas.
