Join Mount Pleasant Park Football Club for an evening fundraiser for South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action Group (SYMAAG).
Saturday 26 October
4:30pm – 8pm
Broomhall Community Centre
Broomspring Lane
Sheffield S10 2FD
The event follows Saturday’s protest at Morton Hall in Lincolnshire, organised by SYMAAG in opposition to the government’s inhumane detention and deportation practices. More info on that here.
We’ll be hosting an evening of food and talks, with everyone welcome. There’ll be hot food and drinks (both suggested donation, or free to asylum seekers and refugees); short talks by SYMAAG and MPPFC; and a panel Q&A with representatives from Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID), Right to Remain, SYMAAG and MPPFC.
The focus of the panel event is “How to be a good ally”, and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and learn from one another. There will also be a legal expert on detention present to informally answer any questions people might have.
The event will be a great opportunity to learn more about the detention and deportation systems. As well as those who have been at the action earlier in the day, the event is aimed at those who want to find out more about detention and deportation, and how to oppose them. People who aren’t currently actively engaged in campaigning, but who would like to learn more, are very welcome.
Food will be served from 5, and everything will be vegan. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and there is an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities on site. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch in advance.
