The campaign in Sheffield has teamed up with Mount Pleasant Park FC, a community-based football club, for the first These Walls Must Fall 5-a-side football tournament.

Sunday 27 October
10:30am – 15:00pm
at
Umix Centre
17 Asline Rd, Sheffield S2 4UJ

You may remember Mount Pleasant Park as the football club who staged a protest game outside the Home Office Reporting Centre in Sheffield. Well, now they have gone further, and organised a whole tournament!

Competing in the tournament will be community teams from Yorkshire and from across the country, including refugee and migrant groups and organisations.

Mount Pleasant Park tournaments are friendly affairs, football for fun and for abilities. All the playing places are booked now, but it will be a great event to come along and watch.

A message from MPPFC

We’re pleased to announce that we’re organising our next 5-a-side football tournament in partnership with the ‘These Walls Must Fall’ campaign to end immigration detention in the UK. The tournament will be raising money for South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action Group, and will be part of a weekend of action and awareness-raising that we hope others can join us for.

And on Saturday…

Prior to the tournament on the Sunday, we’ll be joining a protest at Morton Hall detention centre in Lincolnshire on the Saturday, before coming back to Sheffield for a social and discussions around resistance to the border regime.

This will take place at Broomhall Community Centre and will also include the launch of a film we’ve been making with Victor Mujakachi from ASSIST Sheffield and These Walls Must Fall, around detention and football. Find out about the background to that here.
